Jogging

Jogging is a stretchy fabric that could either be french terry or have a fleece backing. The fabric is very well suitable for garmets like joggers, hoodies, sweaters etc.

It comes in a variety of thickness. To decide the quality of the fabric, check the weight. If the weight is 220-240 gsm it is thin, almost like cotton elastane. When the weight is heavier the fabric becomes thicker. Also a fleeced backing will make the fabric feel more thick.

Of course also the fabric content is a property of interest. Usually a higher percentage of cotton or rayon is of higher quality than a higher number of polyester. But not always. A fleece backed fabric might have a higher percentage of polyester but still be of great quality and makes the fabric look great after many washes.

Most jogging fabrics has 4-way stretch but some fabrics do not and you have to be careful checking this important fabric property since it will limit the range of suitable patterns for garments. Some jogging fabric might only have 2-way stretch and not that much stretch as others. Test the fabric before you begin to sew. If the fabric only stretches minimum in one direction choose that direction to be in the length direction of your garment. It is best to have the most stretch on the width of garment when you are sewing pants and sweaters.
